Mike Seymour is a New York State and U.S. Coast Guard licensed guide. For the past 25 years, he has operated Captain Mike’s Fishing Charter’s on the St. Lawrence River where he guides for bass, walleyes, northern pike, muskellunge, and yellow perch. He spent five summers in Alaska where he guided for salmon on the Nushagak River. In addition to guiding others, Mike is an avid angler himself, and he might be found on any body of water from a mountain trout stream to one of the Great Lakes.

Mike is also an outdoor writer who holds memberships in the Outdoor Writers Association of America, Association of Great Lakes Outdoor Writers, and New York State Outdoor Writers Association, an organization for which he is a Past President. He has written thousands of articles that have appeared in numerous publications including New York Sportsman, New York Game and Fish, New York Outdoor Times, Lake Ontario Outdoors, New York Outdoor News, Central New York Outdoor Journal, Outdoors Magazine, Northern Tier Magazine, New York Outdoors, Musky Hunter, The Conservationist, Advance News, and The Plaindealer. Mike’s weekly column has appeared in the Advance News every Sunday for the past 22 years. He has also written angling guides for St. Lawrence County and for the Adirondack Tourism Council.

He received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English at Siena College in Loudonville, NY; a Master of Science Degree in Education at St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY; and a Master of English Education Degree from the State University of New York in Potsdam, NY. Mike taught high school English for 33 years, 30 of those at Canton High School in Canton, NY.

Mike resides in Canton, NY on the banks of the Grasse River with his wife, Mary Sue, and his golden retriever, Pike. He has two adult sons. Matthew lives in Baltimore, MD, and he is an avid fly fisherman. Luke lives in Canton, NY, and he has a case of “muskie fever.” Mike currently serves on the St. Lawrence County Fisheries Advisory Board, on the Board of Directors for FISHCAP, on the Pro Staff of Suick Lures, and as the President of the Federated Sportsmen’s Clubs of St. Lawrence County.
