Jim Stein
Author of The Smart Guide To Practical Math and The Smart Guide To High School Math
Jim Stein is a Professor of Mathematics at California State University in Long Beach. A graduate of Yale University with a doctorate from the University of California at Berkeley, Jim has written 30 technical articles on mathematics and several books explaining mathematics for general audiences.
His books How Math Explains the World and How Math Can Save Your Life were selections for the Scientific American Book Club. His book The Right Decision resulted in his being invited to be a guest blogger for the Huffington Post and Psychology Today. His next book, Cosmic Numbers: The Numbers That Define the Universe, has received critical praise and will be published by Basic Books, the leading publisher of scientific books for the general public.
Jim has also conducted conferences for the National Science Foundation and served on textbook adoption committees for the state of California. He has been an advisor on mathematical education at both the state and national level.
Jim also has experience related to mathematics that goes beyond the world of academics. He worked for an engineering firm on projects connected with putting a man on the Moon. He has also developed models for financial analysis and is the co-author of How to Shoot from the Hip Without Getting Shot in the Foot, a book on business management strategy.
